Fishing Report

Lake Texoma Summer Fishing Continues to be Great

August 12, 2006

The falling water level and rising water temperature has not affected the striper bite. A couple of short rains in the last few days added some oxygen to the water. We are leaving the dock at 7:00 AM for our morning trips. Customers are catching early limits and catch and release if they can handle the heat later in the day. Some of our afternoon trips have not begun until 4:00 PM or later. The late bite is super during the full moon and customers have been catching larger stripers in the afternoon and early evening. You can take off a little early from work and drive to Texoma for a very productive afternoon striper trip and stay the night with me free.

As of 8:00 AM, Friday, August 11 the water pool level was 612.93 feet, down 3 feet since July 11th. The normal annual pool level is 617 feet. The water temperature is 86 degrees. This is only 3 degrees warmer since July 11th. We had a two hour thunderstorm this morning that cooled the water some. The water is clear. The Corps of Engineers is not going to generate this weekend. Sunrise this morning was 6:24 AM and sunset will be at 8:39 PM. There are 14 hours and 23 minutes of visible light. The moon is full tonight and will be full thru the fourteenth. Our next full moon will be September seventh. Yesterday’s low was 80 degrees and the high was 105 degrees. It was much cooler this morning because of the early thunderstorm. The current temperature at 1:00 PM is 82 degrees and there is a 10 MPH south wind.

The forecast for the next few days is for lows in the lower 80’s and highs around 100 degrees with south winds 5 to 15 mph. There is a 30% chance of precipitation forecast for tonight. The next seven days should be partly cloudy with no rain in the forecast.

Fishing was as good during July as it was in June. Limits were being caught on practically every trip. We fished 352 fishermen in June and cleaned 3,255 stripers. This does not include the stripers that were caught and released. We have fished 100 people thru the 11th of this month and cleaned 870 stripers with many stripers caught and released again. Some of our customers only want to catch and release fish. We are very proud of the many customers that are bringing their children. The proof is in the pictures at www.tinker.net. Pictures for July are on my website and the August pictures thru the 11th have been sent to our webmaster and should be posted soon.

If the weather goes as forecast this week, it should be a great time to enjoy the lake and the topwater action. We are seeing many fish bust the water. Most of them are fourteen to seventeen inch stripers. If you get lucky and find the larger stripers feeding on surfacing shad they will eat up a topwater lure.

Our guides furnish tackle, bait and friendly instruction for you. Tinker’s private boathouses are always available for our guests to fish for catfish, striper, perch, crappie and bass before or after the guided trip. Everything is furnished except food, drinks, licenses and rain gear.

Our bedrooms are comfortable, clean and fully furnished with private entrances and baths. All types of outside cooking facilities are available for your use. The game room has pool, card and domino tables, plus dart boards, washer boards, stereo and TVs with DVD, CD, VCR and surround sound.

Open Dates

We have several days open for morning trips the rest of August. August 19 & 25 are full for morning trips. Every day has at least one boat available for an afternoon trip. September and November weekends are booking fast. All Saturdays in October are booked except for one boat available the 28th. Occasionally we have late cancellations. Please call our toll free number to make sure we have an available boat on the day you can fish.

We hope to see you soon, Brenda, Tinker, Pam, Alan & all the guides.
