High Winds Hamper March Fishing
April 7, 2005.
We started the morning at 52 degrees. It was cloudy with a 10 to 20 mph northwest wind. Sunrise was at 7:05.
Sunset will be 7:51. There will be 13 hours and 37 minutes of visible daylight. The forecast for Friday and Saturday
is highs in the 70s, partly cloudy and light southerly winds. There is a slight chance for scattered thunderstorms on
Sunday and Monday. The forecast for the rest of week is for cloudy skies, highs in the lower 70s and lows in the upper
50s with a southerly wind.
The high north winds and cold mornings made fishing difficult during several days in March. We only had one day completely rained out. Re-fish or discount certificates were sent to our customers that experienced the worst fishing days during March. The weather should be much better for April fishing. I want to send a special thanks to all the parents who brought their children to Lake Texoma during Spring break to fish with us. Fishing is a wonderful way to introduce your children to the outdoors. Please bring your children back if you experienced bad weather and difficult fishing on your trip. The lake is very low with the water pool level at 614.48. The water temperature has climbed to 56 degrees and the lake is clear to two feet on the main body of water. The generating schedule is for one unit 6:00 to 8:00 AM and 3:00 to 11:00 PM. The moon will be full on April 24th. Customer Catches Four Pound Crappie
An angler fishing with the Mike Pisterzi party landed a four pound crappie fishing with guide David Escamilla Thursday.
They were fishing with live bait in 56 feet of water when the huge crappie hit. More details on the catch will be released in my next report.
Our anglers have been landing several stripers between 8 and 14 pounds. Live shad has worked very well. Many of the stripers have been caught on Cohos, Sassy Shad and Horse Hair Jigs fishing under or near feeding gulls. The west side of the lake and the Red River has been best for Striper fishing during March. Our boats have been departing the boathouse between 6:00 and 8:00 am. and 2:00 and 3:00 pm. Afternoons have been super for both striper and catfish. Many of our anglers prefer later departures when the temperature is much more pleasant. You will be on the lake late when fishing in the afternoon. Make plans to stay overnight in our free guestrooms and enjoy the new game room. A Late Cancellation For Saturday Fishing
We have been turning down customers who wanted to fish this Saturday because all of our boats were booked.
Saturday morning fishing with Friday night lodging has come available because of a late cancellation. Please call
Brenda toll free at 1-888-846-5377 to schedule this open boat.
