Big Winter Stripers on Lake Texoma

Monday, December 15, 2003
Water pool level: 611.86,
normal annual pool level is 617 feet.
Water temperature: 55 degrees.
Water clarity: clear.
Generating Schedule: Generating on two units 6:00 AM till 8:00AM.

Today is warm and very windy (twenty to thirty-five mph) with the low this morning 45 degrees. The high today was 70 degrees. Today and tomorrow the wind will be too strong to be on the lake. The forecast for Wednesday thru Saturday is for lows in the 40s and highs in the 60s. The wind is not supposed to be over fifteen mph Wednesday. This will be great for fishing. There is no rain in the forecast for the next six days. Sunrise was 7:23 AM and sunset was 5:19 PM.

Limits of stripers in the double digits are being caught in less than an hour. Large blue catfish are also being caught. The topwater action is fantastic all day long. Larger stripers, up to 17 pounds, are being caught on live shad, topwater lures, jigs and sassy shads in several different locations on the lake. If you like this type of action now is the time to come to Lake Texoma.

The lake is as low as it has been in several years and the water temperature actually came up a degree since my last report. The striper fishing is still as good as it gets on Lake Texoma.

Edward, Christie, Brittany and Caleb Price and Leroy Higgins from Abilene, Texas left the dock Sunday, December 7 at 9:00 AM with guide David Escamilla. Everyone had a great time on their second day bringing 60 stripers to the cleaning table. They caught a limit the day before fishing with guide Mark Banister, Jr.

Herbert Sword from Pottsboro, Texas and his son Gary fished Thursday with guide Mike Blakely. They took advantage of our half price special and caught their limit to four pounds very early.

Gary Walker, Chris Smith and Raymond Pruitt from Plano, Texas went out at noon on Thursday with guide Roger Hill. Everyone had a blast catching a limit to seven pounds.

Sunday, Mike Graves, Borden Jetzelsberger and Mark Graves from Era, Texas fished with guide Roger Hill. They had a limit of stripers with two over ten pounds and another one over eight pounds. The stripers are getting larger every day.

Always wear layers of clothing, insulated boots and have wet weather gear available in case of showers. If the wind is high, a hooded rain suit makes a great wind barrier. Don’t let the cold weather keep you off the lake. When you are catching fish as fast as you can at this time of the year, you will never notice the weather. Afternoons have been super for both striper and catfish. Many of our anglers prefer afternoons when the temperature is much more pleasant than early in the morning. For the last week it has made no difference whether you went out fishing in the morning or afternoon. Some of the larger stripers have been caught during the afternoon trips.

Every one of our boats that have gone out in the last thirty days caught limits of stripers. Many of my customers call and want to know when the fishing is the best and if topwater action has started. I can not impress on you enough about how great the fishing is right now and yes the topwater action has started.
