Texoma Pre-Spawn Fishing Report
Sunday, April 13, 2003 Water pool level: 614.80, normal annual pool level is 617 feet. Water temperature: 57 degrees. Water clarity: very clear. Not generating Saturday and Sunday Today was partly cloudy with a 5 to 19 mph south wind. The extended forecast is for lows in the 50s and highs in the 80s. There is a 20% chance of thunderstorms Thursday night, Saturday and Sunday. Pre-spawn striper fishing can be real tough on Lake Texoma. Texoma is the only US Lake that has a successful spawn every year. The stripers are staging up the rivers waiting on ninety miles of flowing water to complete their spawn. We are free line trolling a one ounce pearl sassy shad over shallow humps and points. The stripers are not the big ones. We are catching 14" to 19" stripers and an occasional 20+ inch fish. You can fill a box up with these fish and they are fun to reel in and the best to eat. Guide Chris Campbell took Lloyd Bates,
Butch and Bruce from Fort Worth out on two trips. They brought 40
stripers to the cleaning table on each day. The largest striper of
the 80 was 3.5 pounds.
