Lake Texoma Fishing Report

Thursday, September 20, 2002

Water pool level: 616.22, normal annual pool level is 617 feet.

Water temperature: 80 degrees.  Water clarity: clear.

Generating 2 pm till 8 pm.

Partly cloudy with a light East wind, low 61 degrees, high 81 degrees.

The air and water temperatures are dropping and a few gulls are beginning to show up.  This makes for some excellent fishing on Texoma and the gulls will help you find the fish.  Our stripers are healthy and hungry.  They will be in a feeding frenzy between now and January as the water continues to cool.

The prospect for a bumper harvest is in store for fall and winter fishing on Lake Texoma.  Come fish in September and October when a light jacket is all you will need to wear or get out the long johns and coveralls and fish in November and December.  I always suggest to all anglers to bring some type of wet weather gear when fishing Texoma.  A short shower or a little boat spray from a high wave can ruin an otherwise great fishing day if you are not prepared.

I wanted to leave the previous paragraph from last weeks report to remind everyone about the fall fishing.  Just as I predicted, the fish are really feeding great.  It is about 8:00 AM Friday and the guides have already called in with reports of limits caught this morning.  The rest of the trip will just be catch and release.  I hope they saved a spot in their limit for a big fish.

Ricky Shin brought some of the Eller Media guys in from Dallas for an early fishing trip Friday.  These guys like to catch their fish quick and get back to work in the afternoon!!!   What a day, it was lightening and raining at daylight and they didn't get to leave the dock until after 7:30 am.  The weather cleared around 8 am.  Guide Joe Grigar put them on fish in a hurry.  Missing a few bites is very common with these guys when the stripers are biting fast.  When the action stopped they had landed fifty fish with all of their 20"+ silversides.  With a lot of laughter and bragging going on, they headed to the cleaning table before noon.

Texas and Oklahoma duck hunting season will be opening soon.  You can hunt in the morning on Lake Texoma and the Red River and fish that same afternoon on Lake Texoma.
