Fishing Report

Dateline: Lake Texoma     Sunday, June 3, 2001.

Lake level: 619.07. Water Temperature: 71 degrees. Water clarity: Clear.

Generation: N/A. Floodgates: Closed.

Weather: low 66 / high 88 / partly cloudy.

Fishing time: Sunday, 5:30 a.m. till 12:30 p.m.

At 6:00 A.M. the lake is just over two feet high. The floodgates were open all week.  Friday and Saturday fishing was slow to poor.  By Sunday the stripers had adjusted to the changing water flow and dropping lake level.  Fishing improved all over the lake Sunday. Our boats brought in 160 Silversides with the largest weighing in at 18.3 pounds.

Shad are practically impossible to catch on Texoma.  Shiners have been working great.  We were anchored using shiners fishing 55 feet deep in 73 feet of water.  The key to catching the larger stripers was to watch the sonar and measure your bait down to the exact depth the sonar showed the big hooks suspended at.  Again, as last week, if you start at Washita Point and follow the river channel and the edges of it all the way to the dam you will find the large schools of stripers.

The next few weeks will be great for catching the hard fighting silversides.
