Fishing Report

Dateline: Lake Texoma     Thursday, May 17, 2001.

Lake level: 617.60. Water Temperature: 66 degrees. Water clarity: Clear.

Generating noon till 10PM. Floodgates: Closed.

Weather: low 68 / high 84, partly cloudy/windy.

Fishing time: Friday, 6:00 a.m. till 11:30 a.m.

Fishing has been sporadic for the last few days.  For some reason the stripers are scattered in small schools all over the lake.  If you get lucky and can drift with a school of these fish you can usually catch from 9 to 12 stripers before they disappear.  Another proven method is to anchor on the crest of a creek or river ledge with live shiners and enjoy the fishing. This may take 4 or 5 hours to catch a limit.  Our boats caught from 16
stripers to 41 fish to nine pounds, catching and releasing many fish over 20 pounds.

Bruce Hysmith, Texas Fisheries Biologist, reported TPWD has been stocking Lake Texoma with threadfin shad on a regular basis.  Their goal is to stock 30,000 threadfin shad in May.
