Fishing Report

Dateline: Lake Texoma     Saturday, March 3, 2001

Lake level: 627.11

Water Temperature: 47 degrees

Water clarity: Stained/Muddy

Generating: 2 generators 24 hours

Floodgate discharge: 35,000 CFS

Weather: high 50 / low 32, cloudy, light north wind

Fishing time: 8:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m.

Catching 16” to 19” stripers on shiners in 55’ to 75’ of water on the main body of the lake kept our interest on fishing.  The weather was comfortable by 10:00 a.m. for some fun fishing.  An occasional 20” to 25” silverside really got everyone’s adrenaline flowing.  The smaller stripers were hard to hook at times.  We had several baits knocked off and reeled up empty hooks.  Three boats with ten fishermen came in with a total of 72 stripers to 8.25 lbs.

Pre-spawn striper fishing is going to be some of the best in years.  Watch for floating debris and large trees while the lake is flooded.  It will be best to wait until after good daylight before you depart on your fishing adventure.
